Naga offers Holy Mass to landslide victims

(Holy Mass at ground zero)

On the 40th day of the massive landslide in the City of Naga which killed close to a hundred people, the City of Naga early morning Tuesday offered Holy Mass to the victims. Led by City of Naga Mayor Kristine Chiong and some officials, the mourners went to the ground zero in Barangay Tinaan for the special mass. Flowers were also offered and white balloons were released for the victims who were recovered and those who are still buried at the site. “Scene @ ground zero after a special mass offered for the eternal repose of the souls who perished in the Sept. 20, 2018 landslide,” captioned Garry Cabotaje on his photos of Tuesday’s event. Cabotaje is sangguniang panglungsod secretary. Most of the residents of Barangay Tinaan were still sleeping on the early morning of September 20 when a loud explosion was heard not far from their village. It was followed by what survivors described like an earthquake and then the mountain above them collapsed to their homes below. Many were able to run and save themselves, but close to a hundred were trapped and killed. - LGC
