CEBU: Suspect in the murder of a student arrested in Mandaue

Police arrested Tuesday morning the suspect in the murder of a 24-year-old female working student in Barangay Tinago, Cebu City last November 4. The Waterfront Police arrested Emaelito Familiar Jr., 24, at the house of his uncle near Mandani Bay in Mandaue City, after he allegedly Charice Mae Mancia by slashing her neck. S/Insp. Joemar Pomarejos, chief of the Waterfront Police Station, said it was the suspect’s uncle who alerted PO1 Edmundo Rizarri of the CCPO Station 2, who is also their neighbor in Barangay Tinago. According to the police, Familiar’s intention he broke into the house of Mancia was to rob it but the victim saw him which prompted him to stab her in the neck causing her instantaneous death. After the incident, the suspect fled to Lapu-Lapu City to hide at the house of a relative. He also tried going to the City of Naga to another relative to ask for help so he could leave Cebu for Dumaguete City, but was denied help. Police said the suspect then decided to go to his uncle’s house in Mandaue to seek refuge. Pomarejos said the suspect reportedly regretted doing the crime. – LGC
