Koko Martin was not around but almost all the cast of the teleserye Probinsyano were present last Saturday in the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex to play exhibition basketball with the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) All Star Basketball team. The women in the crowd still screamed and yelled though as Mark Anthony Fernandez and his team mates showed their basketball antics against the PRO-7squad led by Sr. Supt. Medardo Richie Posadas.

When the 40 minutes of play halted, the PRO-7 squad won, 79-76. The PRO-7 was reinforced by Cong. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas (Cebu, 1st district) who played quality mimutes for the police basketball team. Supt. Mark Gifter Sucalit of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office acted as the playmaker of the PRO-7 squad which also had Sr. Supt. Jonathan Cabal, Sr. Supt. Jonathan Abella, among others.

PRO-7 Regional Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas who watched the game at courtside said the game was a fund raising activity to give financial assistance to the families of policemen who died in their relentless campaign against the drug menace. “This is for the families of our fallen brave men who died in our illegal drugs campaign,” Sinas told reporters in a mixed of Cebuano and Tagalog. Fernandez briefly spoke to the crowd and reminded them about the evils of illegal drugs.

He was arrested then in Angeles City in 2016 for illegal possession of marijuana but was acquitted in court as the operation against him was not valid as there was no witness from the media or the prosecutors office. Aside from Fernandez, the other actors who played were Joko Diaz, Ejay Falcon, Jordan Herrera, Jay Manalo, Emilio Garcia and Gene Padilla who did some comic acts in the court. PBA star Arwind Santos of the San Miguel beermen was supposed to play with the Probinsyano actors but he opted to sit in the bench.

Sexy actress Maui Taylor was also invited as a guest and performed during the half-time break.
